Keneilwe Patricia MereNon Executive Director

Keneilwe is a Partner at MORIBAME MATTHEWS, a firm of Attorneys of which she is a founding member, established in June 2007. She graduated from the University of Botswana with a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) in 2001, and is now on her 15th year of practice as a private Legal Practitioner.

After a short stint at Lesetedi and Company Law Firm, Keneilwe joined Collins Newman & Co in August 2001 as a Pupil Attorney, and by the time she left in 2006 to set up Moribame Matthews, was a Senior Associate. Keneilwe has a firm, solid foundation and background of Corporate/Commercial Law, Labour Law, as well as Civil Litigation.  At Moribame Matthews, Keneilwe heads the Civil Litigation Department (which has under it, commercial litigation, general litigation, debt collection and labour/employment advisory). Keneilwe also practices Corporate/Commercial transactional work, which she and the other founding Partner, jointly oversee. This includes advisory work on legislative framework and interpretation of statutes for most parastatals in Botswana.

Keneilwe’s practice has grown to include provision of legal due diligence services for local and international companies, which incorporates advisory services regarding Botswana law and doing business in Botswana for international clients. As a result, Keneilwe was instrumental in Moribame Matthews being chosen to be transactional advisors in Botswana for a bid involving a major acquisition by an international oil company of a subsidiary in Botswana.

Keneilwe is a citizen of Botswana. She is continually requested to assist government and parastatals evidenced by her previous role as a Board Member of the Tourism Licensing Committee under the Ministry of Wildlife and Tourism and her current Board appointment to the Botswana Railways Board. Keneilwe is also a board member of Botswana Couriers and Logistics. Her keen interest on the social welfare of others especially towards youth and women, and the state of cancer in Botswana has led her to be an active Board Member of the Cancer Association of Botswana, as Vice Chairperson and a director of Alto (Pty) Limited, a female empowerment company geared towards the improvement of youth and women. Keneilwe is also an active member of the Law Society of Botswana focusing on the growth of the legal profession in Botswana and particularly the progression of women in the legal field especially in private practice. To that end she mentors young women lawyers
